Here are several important reasons to get your mattress professionally cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis.
Dust Mite
You spend approximately one-third of your life in bed in order to rest and rejuvenate your body and mind. Your may be surprised to know that you are sharing your mattress with anywhere between 100,000 to 10 million dust mites. Beds are a prime habitat for these microscopic creatures as they prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. Their favourite food is dander (both human and animal skin flakes). Approximately 80 percent of the material seen floating in sunlight is actually skin flakes.
Did you know a single dust mite produces about 20 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein to which many people are allergic. Yuck! The proteins in that combination of faeces and shed skin are what cause allergic reactions in humans. Depending on the person and exposure, reactions can range from itchy eyes to asthma attacks. And finally, unlike other types of mites, house dust mites are not parasites, since they only eat dead tissue. Horrible, but true!
Bed Bug
If you suspect that you may have bed bugs, don’t put off calling us. Your family’s health may be in danger, and the longer you wait the more serious the problem may become. Bed bug infestation is on the rise, so protect yourself, your family and your pets from them before they can multiple.
No bigger than an apple seed, bed bugs are small and ugly. They have dark brown, oval shaped bodies that appear flat from the top.
While they can feed on any warm-blooded organism, bed bugs have a penchant for humans. The insects’ preferred mealtime is during the night, but they will make a daytime appearance if they exceptionally hungry. Their bites look like tiny mosquito bites, so it often takes a while to realise that those itchy spots aren’t your average mosquito’s summer meal. Bed bugs are parasites as they feed on their host’s blood, consequently they may become the source of infection.
Urine
Unfortunately, accidents can happen at any age. Whilst babies and small children do not have control over their bladder, we as parents usually take precautions to protect our child’s mattress.
However, even the best laid plans sometimes don’t work out. If your child has wet the mattress it is a good idea to get it professionally steam cleaned in order to remove any residual urine crystals that can not only leave stains but create an unpleasant smell.
Do you realise that you are sharing your bed with unwelcome guests?
